Parents – please register online through the St. Aloysius Parish website https://www.staloysius.on.ca/  if your child is in Gr. 2 or Gr. 7 and your would like them to receive the Sacrament of First Communion or Confirmation this year.

There will be links on the homepage that will lead parents/guardians to a Google Form to register. This will be for new applications only. Families who registered last year through our Parish Office, and chose to wait until this year will not need to register again. We will be communicating with those families after the close of registration.

Our Parish office and church are currently closed during the lockdown, but we are monitoring emails during the closure. We will not be having an in person information meeting at the church.

We will be giving families further instructions after the close of registration, and we will also send this information to the schools.

There are a few video resources on our website to help families prepare for the Sacraments.

St. Kateri Tekakwitha Bell Time Change Proposal Feedback Survey Open Until January 14th

Greetings,

As you may know, transportation for all schools in the Region is planned and carried out by Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region,  Bell times (start and end times for schools) have been synchronized to ensure we maximize the efficiency of school buses.

For September 2021, the public board is modifying the length of the school day at one of their high schools.  This change will impact the existing transportation network at three of our schools and at a number of public board schools.  The impact on each Catholic school will be a 10 minute shift in bell times.

St. Kateri’s current start time is 8:25am and end time is 2:55pm.

The proposed new times for September 2021 are a start of 8:35am and an end of 3:05pm.

We are not required to make this change.  The alternative is the public board will have to add on and pay for a number of additional buses to ensure their students get to school on time.

There is both a financial and environmental cost to not changing bell times which is why we are considering this request.

We are fully aware that this change may not work with family work schedules, child care pick up and drop off times, or for those friends and family members who help support your family’s daily routines.  Accordingly, through this survey, we are asking for your feedback on this change.

Please note that no decisions have been made and your feedback will support discussions at our senior administrative table.

Respectfully,

Shesh Maharaj

Happy New Year to Our Bulldog Families!

Virtual Learning Reminders – Week of January 4-8

  • All students, JK-Gr. 8, are required to ‘attend’ school from 8:25a.m. to 2:55 p.m. (our regular school hours)
  • Teachers will provide a daily schedule and each day will consist of both synchronous (live instruction – whole class, small group, or individual) and asynchronous learning (students working independently on a task)
  • Synchronous sessions will be with your child’s Classroom Teacher as well as their Planning Time Teacher (Arts, Music, Phys Ed) and/or French Teacher (Gr. 4-8)
  • At times, some students may be working in small groups with a teacher while other students work independently
  • Our bell times, including recess and lunch, remain the same – where possible, students are encouraged to get outside and be active during breaks
  • If your child requires a Chromebook to engage in virtual learning this week, a reminder to please email Principal Dave Lynch david.lynch@wcdsb.ca with your child’s full name, grade and classroom teacher’s name
  • A reminder that The Ontario Government’s ‘Support for Learners’ program  https://www.ontario.ca/page/get-support-learners  provides parents of children JK-Gr. 12 with $200 that can be used to purchase a learning device. Deadline is Feb. 8th

Virtual learning is still very new to both staff and students and it will look quite different from the remote learning that took place in the spring, where there was not an emphasis on live or synchronous instruction.  We ask everyone for your patience and understanding as we endeavor to provide your children with the best teaching and learning experiences possible under these circumstances.

Thank your for your continued support and partnership.
