Rowan’s Law Day – Concussion Awareness (Wear PURPLE)

This Wednesday, September 28th is Rowan’s Law Day. The last Wednesday of every September is designated as Rowan’s Law Day to honour Rowan Stringer’s memory and raise awareness about concussion safety. In May 2013, 17-year-old Rowan died as the result of head injuries she sustained while playing rugby. Students, staff, and parents are reminded of the message – Hit. Stop. Sit.
National Truth & Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day – Friday, September 30th

Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30.
Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.
On September 30, we encourage all students and staff to wear orange to honour the thousands of survivors of residential schools.
