Bulldog Bulletin – May 31-June 4, 2021

Important!  THIS Week!  Registration for St. Isidore Virtual Catholic School for the 2021-2022 School Year – June 1-3 Only

Registration for St. Isidore Virtual Catholic School for the 2021-2022 school year is taking place this week only – June 1-3.  If you would like to formally register your children for St. Isidore Virtual Catholic School, please visit www.wcdsb.ca  and complete the online registration form during the registration window, June 1-3.  Unlike this school year, registration for St. Isidore will be for the entire school year – there will not be opportunities to change learning modalities (i.e., move back to St. Kateri from St. Isidore or move to St. Isidore from St. Kateri) throughout the year.  A survey was sent out in March to give the board an idea of the number of students who might attend St. Isidore; however, parents will need to complete the online form June 1-3 to register for the upcoming school year.

Orange Shirt Day at St. Kateri – Thursday, June 3rd

In memory of the Indigenous children who lost their lives at residential schools in Canada, and to bring attention to this disturbing part of our country’s history, St. Kateri students and staff are encouraged to wear orange this Thursday, when we will hold our second Orange Shirt Day of this school year.  This will be in recognition and memory of all the Indigenous children whose culture, language, and freedom were lost, oppressed or challenged through the residential school program.  For more information https://orangeshirtday.org/about-us.html

June is also National Indigenous History Month in Canada.  For more details and information, please visit Government of Canada National Indigenous History Month

Join the St. Kateri RELAY for LIFE Team

Canadian Cancer Society Fundraiser

Every school in the St. Mary’s FOS has agreed to put together a team to participate in the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life this year.  We would like to invite our St. Kateri families to join our fundraising team and participate in the Relay for Life!  Some of our classes will participate in a virtual Relay for Life the week of June 7th, and we would like to invite and encourage the greater St. Kateri Community to participate on the actual event scheduled for Saturday, June 12th.  If your family is in a position to make a donation please do so here Relay For Life at WCDSB (Waterloo Catholic District School Board): Team List – Relay For Life (cancer.ca)  under the team name St. Kateri, of course

Here is some information about the Canadian Cancer Society and Relay for Life:

Relay is more than a fundraiser. It unites a collective of Canadians who are a force-for-life in the face of cancer. It’s a chance for participants of all ages to come together and celebrate the survivors in our communities, who send a powerful message of hope for those living with the disease. It’s a place to honour and remember those currently battling cancer, those who have beaten cancer and  those we’ve lost to cancer.

Wherever your Relay takes place, you’ll be joining thousands of people across the country who have shown up for their communities. With your help, we can prove that together, we are bigger than cancer.

With nearly 1 in 2 Canadians expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, we all know someone whose life has been changed by this disease.  But each day, our friends, family, neighbours, and colleagues prove to us that while cancer can change everything, it doesn’t have to define who you are.  At the Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life, we show the people we love that life is bigger than your diagnosis – that no matter where you live, you don’t have to face cancer alone.

If you are a cancer survivor, cancer-free or living with the disease, we want to celebrate you and the hope that you provide to your community. When you sign up as a survivor for Relay For Life, you will be honoured during the first lap of Relay — the Survivors’ Victory Lap.

Whether you Relay for a parent, child, grandparent, or friend, luminaries are a powerful symbol that our loved ones are always in our hearts. The Luminary Ceremony at Relay For Life allows us to honour and remember those we love, every step of the way.

Signing up for Relay helps us fund groundbreaking research, provide the largest cancer support system in the country and shape health policies to make living with cancer easier. With your help, we can continue to help those affected by cancer live their lives as fully as possible.

The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is the only national charity that supports Canadians with all cancers in communities across the country. No other organization does what we do; we are the voice for Canadians who care about cancer. We fund groundbreaking research, provide a support system for all those affected by cancer and shape health policies to prevent cancer and support those living with the disease.

Help us make a difference. Call 1-888-939-3333 or visit cancer.ca today.
