Well…it’s February and that means that we are at the halfway mark of the school year. It’s hard to believe, isn’t it? We have had a fantastic year so far and are looking forward to all of the great learning opportunities that will take place from now until the end of June! I am always impressed with how hard working and well behaved our students are, how supportive our parent community is, and how talented, supportive and caring our staff members are. No wonder the school climate at St. Kateri is so positive! We are all working as partners in very special way to support the spiritual, academic, social and physical growth of the children in our care.
Some dates in February to note include:
February 2 – Dance-a-thon Kick off Assembly (2:00 p.m.)
February 6 – Catholic School Council Meeting (6:00 p.m.)
February 13 – Shrove Tuesday and Valentine’s Day Celebrations (moved due to Ash Wednesday on February 14th this year)
February 14 – Ash Wednesday Liturgy (10:00 a.m.)
February 19 – Family Day (no school)
February 23 – Dance-a-thon Fundraiser!
St. Kateri Drop Off/Pick Reminders
A reminder to parents who drive their children to school – please drop your child off on the school side of the drop off area without getting out of your vehicle. Our drop off zone doubles as our bus zone and we need to make sure the area is clear when our six busses arrive.
Unfortunately, there is no parking for parents on school property at the end of the school day. The bus lanes must be free from any traffic and parking in the small YMCA Little Pause Daycare is limited to Y staff and parents with children enrolled in the program.
Twitter and Newswire – Please Follow Us and Sign Up
If you aren’t already following @Saint_Kateri on Twitter or Newswire (sign up on our school website https://stkateri.wcdsb.ca/ ) please do so. Important information is shared using these platforms as well as all the great learning experiences the students of St. Kateri are engaged in.
New Ping Pong Tables and Foosball Table – Thank You Mr. Martins and Jumpstart!
Our Intramural Lead Teacher, Mr. Martins, applied for and received a grant from Jumpstart to purchase some new equipment for our Intramural Program! Thank you!
Term 1 Report Cards
First Term Report Cards are going home with students on February 15th. Please be sure to read the report card with your child and use it to help set goals for Term 2. A letter included in the report card envelope will provide some guidance and suggestions.
Winter Dance-a-thon Fundraiser with DJ TK – Friday, February 23rd
Parents – please encourage your children to do their best fundraising for our annual Catholic School Council sponsored event! This year, DJ TK will be on the Wheels of Steel, spinning great tunes for our students to dance to all day long! To meet our fundraising goals, students are encouraged to raise at least $20 each. Please remind your children to only ask for donations from people they know. Proceeds will go to support purchasing new technology for student use (including Chromebooks), bringing in guest speakers (such as D.O.) and school plays (Jillian Jiggs and Tree Boy in the Sping), supporting our Catch-a-Kid program, buying new Kindergarten play equipment, and paying for our new gym murals.
Family Math Night – Mark Your Calendars…Thursday, March 22, 6:00-7:15 p.m.
Parents – Mark your calendars and please plan on attending our Family Math Night with your children. You will participate in two 20 minute Math learning sessions in your children’s classrooms which will assist you in supporting their learning at home. A draw for prizes, including board games and Chromebooks, will take place at the end of the night – you must attend to be eligible to win!
Great news from Earth Rangers: we have just finished weaving our 4th milk mat. That means that we have diverted over 1200 milk bags for a good cause. Thank you to the many weavers from every division who are dedicated to making a difference.
Also remember that our school is a Boomerang Lunch school. If your children bring back a messy lunch bag, perhaps remind them to put their food garbage in one of their empty containers. We recycle all paper, foil and plastics. Our students have been much more mindful of how they sort their garbage. Great job, Bulldogs!
